Janea Early Named December Women’s Mariner of the Month

Women’s Basketball player Janea Early was named Mariner of the Month for December. The freshman forward posted gaudy numbers in the final month of the year and helped her team to a 5-1 record.

In the month of December Early averaged 23.5 points per game on 50% shooting from the field. She also averaged 12.8 rebounds per game, 1.8 assists per game and 1.3 steals per game in December. She recorded double doubles with points and rebounds in five of her six appearances while scoring in double digits every game.

On December first at the Modesto College Tournament, Early scored 30 in a 71-63 win over DeAnza College. She grabbed 15 rebounds with three assists and two steals in the victory. She followed up less than 24 hours later with a 13 point, 14 rebound performance in Marin’s 78-58 win over Yuba College in the Consolation Championship game.

Against Hartnell College on December 12th, Early had another monster game, with 21 points and 15 rebounds. It became a constant trend as she put up 25 points and nine rebounds a week later at Monterey.

Early started off conference play with a magnificent performance against Merritt College on December 21st as she scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in Marin’s 69-63 victory over the Thunderbirds. Her last game the month fell on December 30th, when she had 27 points on 13-17 from the field and added 12 rebounds and two more steals to boot.

Early has had a tremendous first season for the Mariners, her dominance inside should continue and allow Marin to contend for a BVC Championship.
