Pittsburg, CA--After enduring a rough loss at home on Tuesday against Los Medanos the Mariners went on the road in an attempt to split the two game series with the Mustangs. 

The opening innings featured a pitchers duel between Eric Smith and Mike Alexander as both hurlers traded 0's. The Mariners had a golden opportunity to strike first as there were two runners in scoring position for cleanup hitter Ryan Schalch with no outs in the top of the 4th. After battling to a full count against Alexander, Schalch went down swinging for out number one. Jakob Davidson drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases for Jaymes Potts. The lefty grounded one to the Mustangs' first baseman, who stepped on his bag and threw home to cut down lead runner, Marcus Chiu, and end the inning. 

The Mariners' chances at the plate for the remainder of the game would end largely the same--with nothing to show for it. The Mustangs, however, made the most of the chances they got. Plating lone runs in the 5th and 7th to bookend a five run 6th inning, with four of the five runs coming with two outs as Los Medanos batted around before the inning came to a close. 

Marin's lone run came in the 8th. Joey Nafius pinch hit to leadoff the inning, collecting his second hit of the year. A single and walk later the bases were loaded for Schalch, who drew a walk on a full count pitch to bring in Naifius from third, to keep Marin from being shut out for the first time this season. Davidson struck out looking to end the scoring chance for Marin. 

The 7-1 loss is Marin's worst loss, by run differential, on the year. The loss hurts doubly because it pushes Marin to 7-5 in Bay Valley Conference play, well below Los Medanos and Laney who are tied for first at 10-2. With the second half of the season beginning on Saturday against Mendocino the Mariners are in desperate need of a run to keep a fourth-straight BVC title a possibility.
