Mariners Bounce Back With 6-1 Victory

Kentfield, CA--With a chance to shake off a rough series the Mariners took on the Eagles of Mendocino on Saturday. There is also a sense of urgency at Marin as the top teams in the Bay Valley Conference continue to seperate themselves from the rest of the pack.

Jaymes Potts made his fourth start of the year for Marin and went 1-2-3 to start off the game, inducing three flyouts to begin the afternoon. Chris Hayman started things off for the Mariners by drawing a walk, Marcus Chiu singled to put two aboard. Ryan Schalch came up with one out and ripped a double to plate Chiu and Hayman, giving Marin a 2-0 lead. Potts, hitting in the DH spot, continued scoring by hitting an RBI single to score Schalch, giving Marin the 3-0 lead.

The 3 runs would prove to be plenty as Potts held the Eagles hitless until the top of the fourth inning. Chiu added on to the Marin lead by hitting his third homer of the year in the fourth. Mendocino scored a lone run in the top of the sixth, it would be the only run the visiting squad would be able to muster in the game.

The Mariners tacked on 2 more runs in the bottom of the eight inning to bring the game to a 6-1 advantage. Schalch closed out the game for Marin, facing 6 batters over two innings of work to shut the door on Mendocino.

The Mariners and the Eagles see each other again on Tuesday the 5th as Marin heads to Ukiah. First pitch, 2:30.
