Mariners outplayed at Folsom Lake, Fall to Falcons 8-2

Three games in three days can be troublesome in College baseball. The Mariners played on their third consecutive day Thursday, traveling to Folsom Lake to face the BVC rival Falcons. Despite the effort, and a home run from Ryan Schalch, it just was not enough to upset the balance against Folsom Lake in an 8-2 loss. It was a difficult day in the field as the team committed five errors.

Folsom Lake scored three times in the bottom of the second heavily assisted by a pair of Mariner errors as the Falcons led off with a double and scored on a fielders choice. After an error, an RBI single drove in their second run, and another error allowed the third to score. College of Marin grabbed one run in the top of the fourth as Marcus Chiu doubled with one one and scored on a single by Schalch to cut the Folsom Lake advantage to 3-1.

The bottom of the fifth presented another challenge for the Mariners defense as the leadoff hitter reached on an error and advanced to second on a single. An error allowed a run to score, followed by an RBI double, an RBI single and a sacrifice hit to make the score 7-1. Schalch homered in the top of the seventh, his fifth of the year. Folsom Lake scored in the bottom half on a wild pitch for a final score of 8-2.

Cooper Casad started for College of Marin and pitched very effectively but was doomed by fielding mistakes. He allowed seven runs, two earned in six innings with eight strikeouts. Nick Bostow relieved Casad and pitched two innings allowing a single run.

College of Marin's next game is Tuesday, April 19th when they host Contra Consta in Kentfield.
