College of Marin opened the game with a decent scoring opportunity putting two on with two outs in the top of the first courtesy of a pair of bases on balls, butMarcus Chiu struck out to end the threat.

Cosumnes River had lone base runners in the first and second innings and put two on with two out in the bottom of the fourth but failed to score. The Mariners drew four walks through the first five innings but were also unable to push across the first run of the game.

Eric Smith was tremendous on the hill for College of Marin as he did not allow a hit until the sixth inning. The Cosumnes River starter Jeremy Caldwell was equally as impressive, and not allow a hit in his five innings of work.

The Mariners went quietly in the top of the sixth before Cosumnes River led off the bottom half with a double. They had runners at the corners with no outs before a fielder’s choice erased the runner at third.  A walk loaded the bases, before a potential double play ball resulted in only a single out scoring a run to put Cosumnes River ahead 1-0.

Smith threw seven innings for the Mariners and allowed just one hit and one run while striking out three and walking five.  Chris Norman relieved him and hurled a scoreless eighth inning.

The College of Marin hitters were baffled by Cosumnes River pitching. Paul Kennedy reached on an error with two outs, but Marin was unable to push him across in the top of the seventh inning. After going in order in the eighth, the Mariners had but three outs to work with. After a pair of strikeouts, Marcus Chiu singled for the Mariners first hit, but Jakob Davidson popped out to end the game and the COM team’s season.
