Marin Grabs Wild First Win of Season 14-13 Over Mission College

Less than 24 hours after a heartbreaking walk off loss, the Mariners returned the favor in a 14-13 home win against Mission College on Saturday. Jakob Davidson walked with the bases loaded to force in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth as Marin survived after relinquishing a 12-6 lead earlier in the game. Bret Bowyer picked up the win as he hurled the final two frames of the game, allowing just a single run.

The Mariners offense scored early and often as they scored five in the second including a big three run double by Nick Heimbroadt. They added two more in the third from an RBI single and bases loaded walk to take a 7-0 lead after three full innings. Mission College responded with five RBI singles in the top of the fourth to cut the Mariners advantage to 7-6. Marin answered back immediately with five runs of their own in the bottom half to rebuild the lead to 12-6. Mission got ever closer as they scored fourth in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Marin had one of their own in the bottom of the six and after a scoreless eighth, the Mariners had a precarious 13-12 lead heading to the bottom of ninth inning.

With Boywer on the hill and one out in the top of the ninth, a Mission walk and wild pitch put a runner on second, before an RBI double tied the game at a lucky 13 runs each. Bowyer managed to retire the final two Mission hitters to preserve the tie heading to the home half of the ninth.

Christian Merriwether led off for Marin with a triple followed by Jake Munoz who grounded out keeping Merriwether on third. A pair of intentional walks loaded the bases with one out before Davidson worked the count in his favor and drew the game winning walk off walk to send the home crowd home happy.

Jacob Kimbrough had four RBI for Marin, Heimbroadt had three of his own as eight of nine Marin starters had a hit, seven of nine scored a run and seven of nine had a run batted in.

After two wild games, Marin has a few days off before traveling to face Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz at 2PM on Tuesday, January 31st.
