College of Marin Men's Baseball traveled to Monterey Peninsula College on Friday as a reschedule of Thursday's game at Marin. Rain washed out the field and the two teams opted to flip flop home sites to get the game in. Marin took an early one run lead that lasted until the sixth inning, when Monterey belted a two run home to take the lead. Marin threatened but were unable to push across the tying run in the bottom of the ninth in the 2-1 loss.
After both starters traded zeroes in the first inning, Marin got on the board in the top of the second. Jakob Davison doubled to open up the frame and with one out Alex Davis drove him in with a double of his own. Marin had a chance to put a crooked number up on the board, but Davis was caught stealing third. With two outs the Mariners put runners on second and third, but Christian Merriweather was retired to end the threat.
Marin again had two on and two out in the top of the fourth but were unable to score. Marin starter Chrit Rudkin scattered three Monterey hits over the first five innings and held a 1-0 advantage heading to the bottom of the sixth. After striking out the leadoff batter, Rudkin allowed a single to Drew Romo before Lennie Rodriguez took him out of the park for a 2-1 Monterey lead. Marin was unable to score in the top half of the seventh and Rudkin recorded a scoreless bottom of the seventh before departing the mound.
Marin could not find any offense until the top of the ninth as Alex Davis singled to lead off, his third hit of the game. He was replaced by Nick Heimbroadt bases who advanced to second and then third on a pair of ground outs. With two outs Merriwether struck out to end the threat and the game.
Mariners' pitcher Chrit Rudkin was the tough luck loser as he threw seven sparkling innings and allowed just six hits and two runs. Alex Davis had three hits, including two doubles, while Davidson scored the only run of the game for Marin. Monterey's Trent Salcido started and threw five and two thirds innings, striking out six and allowing just one run. He was relieved by Cameron Crone who threw the final three and third innings with four strikeouts and just one hit allowed.
Marin's next game is Tuesday, February 7th at Diablo Valley College with first pitch scheduled for 2PM.
