Another game in Visalia and unfortunately another one run loss. After having Friday's game at College of Sequoias delayed due to weather, the Mariners opened their weekend with a 4-3 loss in the first half of Saturday's doubleheader. Much like Thursday's game, Marin fell behind early, took the lead, and then gave up it late.
Marin opened the top of the first inning with promise, putting two on with nobody out, but a double play defused the rally as the Mariners failed to score. Sequoias wasted no time getting on the board as Gabe Corona homered with one out in the bottom half to give the home school the early 1-0 lead. They doubled their advantage in the third inning with an RBI single to push the score to 2-0.
The Mariners began their comeback in the top of the fourth as they put runners on second and third with one out. Pete Armusewicz drove in one with an RBI groundout and Nick Heimbroadt tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single. The Mariners took the lead in the fifth as Marcus Chiu tripled and scored on a Jakob Davidson ground out.
Dominic Garihan started for Marin and pitched well for six innings, allowing two runs and four hits while striking out five against a single walk.
Marin held their 3-2 advantage until the bottom of the seventh where Sequoias scored the game tying run on a walk, ground out, wild pitch and ground out. Marin failed to break the tie in the top of the eighth, but Sequoias was more fortunate in the bottom half. An error, wild pitch and a walk put two runners on with two outs before Zac Hernandez lined a single which drove in Sequoias' fourth run of the game.
Marin had a chance to tie or take the lead in the top of the ninth as Adam Hussain singled with one out, but Marcus Chiu and Jakob Davidson failed to drive him in as Marin took the tough luck 4-3 loss.
Dominic Burke had a pair of hits and a walk for Marin, and Alex Davis had a trio of triples and scored a run but it was not enough to ensure the victory.
The Mariners look to salvage the last game of the series against College of Sequoias.
