Marin's chances at a perfect 3-0 week were brutally dashed as Folsom Lake scored 10 times in the top of the ninth inning on Saturday to steal the game late by a score of 12-4. Marin took an early 4-0 lead and limited Folsom Lake to just two runs over the first eight innings before the decisive ninth inning.
Mariners pitcher Bret Bowyer worked a scoreless eighth inning and was on the hill to begin the top of the ninth with a 4-2 Marin lead. Boywer retired the Folsom Lake leadoff hitter before allowing a one out walk. Errors on consecutive plays loaded the bases for the visiting team before a pair of run scoring singles tied the game at 4-4. Marin had a chance to escape the inning with a tie, but a hard hit ball to third was mishandled, and cleared the bases leading to three more Folsom Lake runs.
Down 7-4, things went from bad to worse for the Mariners as a two out RBI single was followed by a two run triple and a two run homer to put the Folsom Lake's run count at 10 for the inning. The disheartened home team drew a two out walk in the bottom of the ninth, but could not muster any extended rally as they fell by the score of 12-4.
Marin scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second, as a trio of walks loaded the bases with two outs before a balk plated MacLean Meyn for Marin. Marin pushed their advantage even higher in the bottom half of the third. A walk and two hit by pitches loaded the bases with one out before Alex Davis roped a two run double and Adam Hussain knocked an RBI groundout to give Marin the 4-0 lead.
Dominic Garihan started on the hill for Marin and threw three scoreless to start the game before running into a bit of trouble in the fourth. Folsom Lake put two on and two outs before consecutive RBI singles cut Marin's advantage to 4-2. The visitors had runners on second and third with two outs but Garihan struck out the Folsom Lake hitter to end the threat.
Garihan pitched through the seventh and allowed just two runs and seven hits while striking out four. He was in line for the win before Folsom Lake's 9th inning rally.
Despite the loss, it was a solid bounce back week for the Mariners as they won two of three games.
