COM’s Garihan Dominates & Bats Explode Against Solano College In 11-1 Victory

A day delay due to rain was no problem for COM and starter Dominic Garihan. Fresh off his CCCBCA NorCal Player of the Week Award, Garihan continued his impressive run with six innings of one run ball in an 11-1 victory on Wednesday, April 19th. The sophomore earned his sixth win of the season and dropped his ERA to 3.75 in 57.2 innings. He got plenty of support as the Mariners scored 11 times in the first three innings for a comfortable win.

After a scoreless top of the first, Marin got on the board quickly as Dominic Burke walked and scored on a one out triple by Adam Hussain. A ground out by Jakob Davidson scored Hussain to put the Mariners up 2-0. Despite having the bases empty and two away, Marin managed to keep the pressure on Solano's starter as Jake Munoz and MacLean Meyn walked before Alex Davis lined a two run double. Nick Heimbroadt followed with a double of his own as College of Marin led 5-0 at the end of the first inning.

Marcus Chiu launched another home run, his 11th of the year, in the bottom of the second, to push the advantage to 6-0.

After a scoreless top of the third, Marin put another crooked number on the board in the bottom half. With one out Heimbroadt reached on an error, and with two away Burke singled. Chiu and Davidson followed with RBI singles before Davidson stepped to the plate and connected with a three run home run to push the lead to 11-0.

At that point, the remainder of the game was nearly academic. Garihan kept the Solano bats silent until the fifth where he yielded a solo home run to Solano's leadoff hitter Cameron Michael. The 11-1 score at that time, remained until the end of the game. Garihan pitched through the sixth inning before being relieved by Nick Bostow who hurled the seventh and eighth innings. Jack Hill finished the game with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Offensively it was the heart of the Mariners order that got the job done. Second place hitter Marcus Chiu had two hits with a homerun and two RBIs. Third place hitter Adam Hussain had three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, while cleanup hitter Jakob Davidson had two hits with a home run and four RBis.

The win pushed Marin's record to 13-3 in conference play with just five games remaining in the Bay Valley Conference regular season.
