Mariners Baseball Advances With 6-2 Win Over Fresno City College

In the span of just over 24 hours, the College of Marin Baseball team won a pair of games over Fresno City College to propel them to the NorCal Super Regionals that begin May 12th. In Saturday's game two, Dominic Garihan was phenomenal for the Mariners with eight strong innings, allowing just a single run in the Mariners 6-2 victory. Offensive plaudits belonged to Jake Munoz had three hits and his second consecutive four RBI day.

The playoff setup dictated the Marin play as the visiting team despite the game taking place in Kentfield. Marin scored first in the top half of the second as Alex Davis' ball was mishandled allowing Jake Munoz to score for a 1-0 lead.

The Mariners added their second in the top of the fourth as Munoz doubled in Adam Hussain for a 2-0 lead. Munoz was at it again in the fifth as he singled in Marcus Chiu for a 3-0 Marin lead.

Garihan breezed through the first four innings, scatting three singles amongst them. He ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth as a Fresno runner reached third with two men out. A two out single by Michael Beltran scored Fresno's first run, but he was caught stealing to prevent any future threat from materializing.

Marin added their fourth and fifth runs in the top of the seventh as Chiu was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a double by Adam Hussain. With one out, Munoz hit a hard chopper that ate up the Fresno second basemen. Two runs scored and Munoz moved to second on the play, but he was stranded after a pair of loud outs.

In the ninth Adam Hussain reached third base with one away and Jake Munoz flew out to deep left to score Marin's sixth run.

Bret Bowyer relieved Garihan to start the ninth and allowed Fresno to load the bases with just one out. A slow chopper to third forced the runner at second before Marcus Chiu ended the game with a sprawling stop and throw to first.

Garihan threw eight complete innings and allowed one run and six hits while striking out seven.

The win gave Marin a two game sweep of the best of three series. They will travel to Delta College in Stockton for a best of three series that begins on Friday, May 12th
