Queen’s Late Triple Gives Marin 72-70 Road Win Over Solano

Despite not playing the first half of the game, Trevelin Queen was ready to deliver when it counted most. Queen nailed a three pointer with just 2.4 seconds remaining in the second half to give Marin the 72-70 victory over Solano College. The team bounced back nicely after a home loss to Los Medanos to get back on the winning side and push their conference record to 4-1.

Marin opened the first half as they have in several previous games, with a hot three-point shooter. Leroy Jackson was the first half hero as he hit five three pointers. JT Robinson added seven first half points while Dondre Grey chipped in with nine of his own. Marin scored just 37 in the first half, but their defense stepped up to keep the game close.

In the second half a new pair of heroes emerged as Nylek Cobb, who took a knee to the calf in the first half fought through the pain and scored 14 second half points with a quartet of three pointers. Queen made is presence felt with 10 of his own in the second. It was a balanced attack as five Mariners scored in double figures. Queen saved his best for last as Marin trailed 70-69 before he hit his dagger three pointer to steal the road victory.

Cobb led Marin with 17 points, Jackson had 15, Gray 11, while Queen and Robinson added 10 each. The team hit 14 three pointers while going to the line just six times.

Head Coach Scott Thom enjoyed his team's progress and their ability to bounce back after a loss. "Leroy Jackson carried us the first half with his five three's, Nylek Cobb took a knee to the calf in the first half and fought through it the whole game showing true grit. Trevelin Queen's go ahead three pointer late in the game with 2.4 seconds left was big time. Defensively we feel like our guys improved from what they saw on film from the Los Medanos game, but we still have a long way to go."

Marin faces perennial Bay Valley Conference title contender Yuba College on Tuesday in Kentfield. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30PM.
