COM Men’s Basketball Grabs Road OT Victory Over College of Alameda

It has been a see saw kind of season for College of Marin Men's Basketball. After a difficult star to the season, Marin had a magnificent month of December before an up and down January. At a minimum the month ended on a high note as Marin downed College of Alameda in overtime on Friday 77-67.

The nervy affair was played on unfamiliar soil as College of Alameda's gym was unavailable and as such the game was played at nearby Laney College. A few adjustments had to be made as the Laney College floor, used only for women's collegiate basketball, lacked the restricted area arc. However, both coaches were amicable to just playing the game.

It was a low scoring affair as neither team could find any kind of offensive flow, neither team took a large lead, nor seemed comfortable as both Marin and Alameda struggled to shoot. Such a game typically comes down to a single play, as both team's missed potential game winners in regulation. With the scored knotted at the end, an additional five minutes of play was required. In those final five minutes the Mariners finally woke up and took over.

Outscoring their opponents by 10 points in the bonus period, Marin grabbed a 77-67 victory to push their conference record to 6-5 and overall record to 11-8. Leroy Jackson led Marin with 23 points while JT Robinson had an outstanding all-around game with 14 points, 15 rebounds and assists. Derek Morgan was all over the court with 17 points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Coach Scott Thom was "Really proud of how are guys battled the whole game. We came out more focused and started the game much better than the last two games we played."
