Despite Big Games From Robinson and N’Diaye, Men’s Basketball Undone In Final Minute By Los Medanos

The roller coaster 2016-2017 season for College of Marin Men's Basketball continued its tumultuous run on Wednesday, February 1st at Los Medanos, as a block charge call went against Marin in the final minute resulting in a 79-73 loss to the Mustangs.

With the Mariners down three with fifty seconds left, Jerald Hickem positioned himself just outside the restricted zone and absorbed contact from the Los Medanos ball handler. The baseline ref blew his whistle and signaled for a charge but after a consultation between the referees, the call was changed to a blocking foul, awarding free throws to Los Medanos. The ensuing free throws put Marin down by two possessions, and they were unable to overcome the deficit in the remaining seconds.

The Mariners dressed and played just seven players and while all competed for major minutes, fatigue and fouls ultimately doomed the visitors. The tightly contested affair was eerily reminiscent of the teams' first meeting of the year at Marin when Los Medanos pulled out a haughty contested 84-80 win.

JT Robinson had another excellent showing on Wednesday as he poured in 21 points, while adding seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and a pair of blocks. Kareem N'Diaye had his best collegiate showing as he scored a career high 20 points and added 11 rebounds. Derek Morgan had an efficient eight points with 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Marin travels back home to host Solano College in Kentfield on Friday, February 3rd, with tip off scheduled for 7:30PM.
