Mariner’s Potential Buzzer Beater Off In Season Opening Loss To Skyline 77-75

College of Marin Men's Basketball began their 2017-2018 season in the most dramatic of fashions on Friday. With three seconds remaining and trailing by two, the potential game winning shot rattled in and out as the Mariners fell to Skyline College 77-75. It was the first game of the season for the new look Mariners, who showcased their abilities in a highly entertaining game.

It was a haughty contested match between the Mariners and the Skyline College Trojans. Both teams played practically even the entire way. The home squad held a slight 40-37 lead at the break but neither team could create any comfortable margin. The second half stayed taught due to excellent play by the guard duo of Derek Morgan and Eric Mireri who each recorded 24 points on the evening. Down to the last seconds, the potential game winning shot went awry as Marin fell by two 77-75.

Marin got variety of contributions across the board. Mireri had 24 points and six rebounds on 8-18 shooting. Morgan had 24 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks on 11-19 from the floor. Kevin Kahirman added nine points and five rebounds while Joey Potts had six points and nine boards.

Marin's next competition takes place in the Ohlone Tournament which begins November 9th, the Mariners open with a game against the Bulldogs of Allan Hancock College.
