Men’s Basketball Drops Road Game At Butte 93-58

The Mariners endured their second loss in 10 days to Butte College as they fell 97-58 on the road on Tuesday, November 28th. The Mariners were out muscled by the Roadrunners who engaged their entire team in the game.  Derek Morgan led all scorers with 19 points, while Darrien Manker led Butte College with 18 of his own.

The game began even early with both teams tied at four points apiece. That quickly went away as Butte went on a 21-6 run to push the lead to 25-10. While Marin tried to keep pace, the Roadrunners pulled away to take a 30 point halftime lead 54-24.

The second half was more competitive, as the Mariners had a chance versus the substitutes of Butte College. The final score was 97-58 as Butte won the second half 43-34.

Morgan paced the Mariners with 19 points on 7-18 shooting from the floor and 5-6 from the line. Eric Mireri shipped in 11 points and four rebounds while Joey Potts reached double digits with 10 points.

The Mariners struggled from the floor as they shot just 25.4% and 22.7% from beyond the arch. Butte managed to shoot 47.3% from the floor and 35% from distance in the game. The home team outrebounded the Mariners 48-28.

The Mariners next opponent are the Victor Valley Rams at the Foothill Tournament on Friday, December 8th.
