Men’s Basketball Nabs First Win At De Anza College 81-72

It was a triumphant evening for the Mariners as they visited De Anza College on Wednesday evening. The result was positive as the Mariners took a slim halftime advantage and turned it into an 81-72 victory over the Dons. De Anza was ranked 13th in Northern California at the time of the game.

The first half was back and forth as neither team gave an inch one way or another. The Mariners had a balanced attack on offense and at the end of 20 minutes of play held a minuscule 35-34 lead. The second remained a close game until the last, when the Mariners put together a nice run to extend their advantage and hold off the Dons for an 81-72 win.

Four Mariners scored in double figures in the victory over De Anza. Garrick Sherrod led all scorers with 21 points, Derek Morgan continued his excellent sophomore season with 19 points and 12 rebounds. It was Morgan's third consecutive double double and fifth of the season. Kevin Kahriman added 13 points and nine boards while Eric Mireri had 15 points for Marin.

Niles Malone led De Anza with 19 points, Terrance Jackson added 12 while Julian Jones chipped in with 13 points off the bench.

The Mariners have a 10 day break before opening conference play at Merritt College on Saturday, December 23rd.
