Men’s Basketball Drops Road Game At Los Medanos 81-68

The Bay Valley Conference is incredible competitive this season, and as such the Mariners continued their search for their first league win of the season at Los Medanos College on Thursday. The game was unfortunately over at the end of the first half, with the second half much more competitive once the game was out of reach, but in the end the Mustangs upended the Mariners 81-68.

Los Medanos wasted no time, taking the game to the Mariners as they breathlessly ran circles around Marin in the opening minutes while nailing 10 shots from distance in the first half. Los Medanos piled up 42 first half points against just 24 for Marin. The Mustangs' Hall racked up five threes of his own in the first half. Marin struggled to score in the first half with the exception of Kevin Kahriman who managed a team leading eight points in the first half.

The second half was played much tighter, as the Mariners played loose and had fun. Derek Morgan had a field day in the paint scoring eight field goals and 17 of his 19 points of the game. Joey Potts added seven in the second half as Marin tallied 44 points to the 39 of Los Medanos. The first half lead the Mustangs built was not threatened in the 81-68 game.

Morgan recorded his sixth straight double double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Morgan has eight double doubles in 11 games played this year.  He added four assists and a steal as well. Garrick Sherrod had 14 points, five assists and four steals while Kevin Kahriman had 10 points and seven rebounds on the evening. Hall led Los Medanos with 23 points and seven made three pointers.

The Mariners look for their first conference win against Solano at home on Saturday, January 6th.
