After hosting three games to begin the season, College of Marin Men's Soccer hit the road Monday with Butte College as the destination. The Mariners began strong, taking their first lead of the season, but as the game wore on, fatigue took its toll and Butte College rallied for a 4-2 victory.

The Mariners were on the board in the 18^th minute as Cerbellio Rodas drew a foul in the penalty box. Henry Mata stepped up to penalty spot and converted to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. Butte stormed back with a pair of goals of the own before the break.

In the second half, Butte added a third to extend their lead before the Mariners grabbed one back in the 58^th minute. After a foul outside the box, Mata delivered an excellent free kick that was headed home by Francesco Coccaro. The Mariners kept pushing but could not grab the equalizer.

Goalkeeper Will Finnie had 12 saves in the game, but drew consecutive yellow cards in the 86^th minute, and was dismissed from the match. Luis Bernal took over in goal as Butte grabbed their fourth of the game in the waning minutes to give the final score of 4-2.

Head Coach Jake Morrison was pleased with his team's effort despite the result, "There was great execution in today's game plan.  We had some very good moments in the run of play and had a host of good opportunities to bag this one.  We have some recovering to do the next few days, but we are excited to have a few days of training and continue to get better for the next match."

It was a long week for the Mariners, "4 games in 7 days was a big ask for our guys but every game they improved and today was no exception.  We worked hard, the guys grinded throughout the match and deserved a different result for how much they worked their socks off, " said Morrison.

Henry Mata grabbed had a hand in both his team's goals, converting an early penalty and grabbed an assist on his team's second. Mata leads the Mariners with three goals in four games. He is two for two on penalties and scored on a direct free kick against Cañada College on Saturday.

College of Marin finally has a few days of rest, as their next game is a home game against College of the Redwoods on Saturday, September 10^th at 11am.
