Men’s Soccer Drops Home Affair To Yuba 3-1

After rains washed out the scheduled match last week, the Mariners finally hosted Yuba College on Thursday in Kentfield. The match did not go as planned for Marin, as Yuba took a first half lead and continued to add on in the second half before COM was able to get on the scoreboard late in the second half. It was too little, too late as Yuba emerged with the victory by a score of 3-1.

Yuba took it to Marin in the first half, hardly giving the defense a rest and peppering Marin keeper William Finnie with quality shots. He saved the vast majority of them, but Yuba did find the back of the net once before the break.

As both teams emerged from their rest period, Yuba maintained their domination, pouring in two more second half goals. The game looked to be a shutout until Marin's Cristian Diaz out dribbled three defenders at midfield before feeding Jason Diaz who scored from 18 yards outs. His 89th minute goal helped take some of the sting out of the 3-1 defeat.

For Coach Jake Morrison "The game was pretty straightforward and we knew going into the game what to expect.  Yuba was able to punish us in a few moments of the game and we just couldn't find a way to break them down on the day."

The goal was the first of the season for Jason Diaz, as was the assist for Cristian Diaz. Finnie had nine saves in goal for the Mariners.

Marin wraps up their three game week with a trip to Napa College, Friday at 4pm.
