Men’s Soccer Drops Road Finale To Contra Costa 4-1

In their final road game of the season, the College of Marin Men's Soccer team visited Contra Costa College where they fell 4-1. It was a spirited affair, as the Comets took a 1-0 halftime lead before doubling their advantage early in the second half. The Mariners responded with a goal to cut the lead to 2-1, but Contra Costa scored twice more to grab the 4-1 win.

Abdulahi Mohammed opened the scoring for Contra Costa in the 26th minute of the first half with an unassisted goal to put Contra Costa up 1-0. Halftime came and went as Contra Costa scored again in the 51st minute as Anthony Maytum had an unassisted goal to put the home team up 2-0.  Marin bounced back with a goal of their own in the 65th minute off a corner kick. Jesus Villeda sent a high cross into the box that William Connelly headed into the back of the net to cut the lead to 2-1.

While the Mariners tried to find the game tying goal, they were denied by Contra Costa, who answered with their third goal in the 73rd minute as Maytum fed Jahrie Gray who beat Marin keeper William Finnie. Saul Munoz added the fourth Comets' goal in the 83rd minute off a pass from Sam Maduzia.

Contra Costa was relentless at attacking the Marin goal as they launched 19 shots on goal in the match. Finnie did his best and saved 15 of those shots.

Coach Jake Morrision on the match "We had a rough go of it in the first half and found it hard generate much offense.  Second half we had some good spells and were rewarded with a goal to start the second half.  We had some other opportunities to get back into the game but we had a few bad bounces and were punished in our defensive third.  Contra Costa is a tough opponent and that is the reason why they are top of the table."

College of Marin finishes their 2016 season schedule at home against Mendocino on Thursday, November 10th
