2016 Men’s Soccer Season Kicks Off With Home Match Against Chabot College

Tuesday, August 30th sees the beginning of the College of Marin Athletic Season as the Men's Soccer Team hosts Chabot College at 4pm. It will be the debut game for new Head Coach Jake Morrison who joins College of Marin after several years an Assistant Coach for Men's Soccer at Cañada College.

The Men's Soccer Team returns 4 players from their 2015 squad that managed at 3-16-1 record and a 3-8-1 record in Bay Valley Conference play.  Henry Mata Gonzalez played in all 20 of the team's matches last season and picked up an assist in and two yellow cards. Cristian Diaz Lopez played in twelve matches while Cerbelio Rodas Reyes and Jon Sohaei also saw the field last season.

Mariners have more help from past players this year as William Finnie, starting goalkeeper from the 2014, returns to the pitch. In his previous season he started 19 games and compiled a 10-5-4 record. He saved 96 shots and allowed just 18 goals good for a save percentage of .842 while notching three shutouts as well.

The team in comprised of mostly freshman, however many are used to Marin soccer. The 2016 roster has three players from Redwood High, seven from San Rafael High, two from Novato High and a trio from Tamalpais High.

New blood and experienced returners will hopefully propel the Mariners to a successful 2016 season.
