COM Hurdler Amanda Villarreal Finishes Season at NorCal Championships

Sophomore Amanda Villarreal finished her season off with strong races in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles at NorCal Trials despite rainy and windy conditions at Chabot College.

In the 100 meter hurdles Villareal placed 11th with a time of 16.65 seconds into a headwind. It was an extremely competitive race that included NorCal women’s 100 meter hurdles champion Deshaunda Morrison of Sequoias. Morrison is the current U.S. Community College Track Coaches Association national leader. Villareal’s time was less than a second shy of qualifying her for the NorCal finals. In the 400 meter hurdles Amanda placed 14th with a time of 1:13:12, her second best time in that competition this season.

She was named the most valuable member of the Track & Field team by her coach Elizabeth Gill. Villareal will be transferring to Sonoma State University in the fall to continue her athletic and academic careers.
