Three meets in three weeks can take its toll on an athlete, especially in rough weather. Despite everything they were up against, the Mariners took to the track and the field on Friday at the Maurice Compton Invitational at Merritt College in inclement weather. A steady drizzle turned into a gusty downpour in several instances, but the Mariners persisted to set several season bests.

The Mariners pair of distance stalwarts Haziel Garcia and Mark Wang faced the most difficult running conditions in the 5k competition. As the race progressed the weather the conditions got worse and worse, but both managed to remain competitive. It was a triumph in the eyes of Head Coach Liz Gill for both athletes, "With Mark running an incredible 48 second PR and Haziel matching his PR. Both moved up to be ranked 6th and 10th in Conference." Wang finished in 17^th place with a time of 17:52.24 and Garcia placed 8^th overall with a time of 16:58.75.

Poy Khaophuan ran in the 100 meter dash and recorded a personal best time of 12.80 seconds. On the women's side Grace Davis set a personal bests in the 100 meter dash in 13.68 seconds and in the 200 meter with a time of 28.52 seconds. She is ranked 7^th in Conference in the 100 meter dash.

In field competitions, Zachary Ahlin took second place in the pole vaulting competition with a height of 3.76 meters. The rain made it even more challenging as he barely missed the Northern California qualifying standard. He also ran in the 800 meter run placing 10^th in the field of 20 runners with a time of 2:04.22 

The Mariners have a week off to recover and train before the final regular season meet of the year on April 20 at the Last Chance Invite at College of San Mateo.
