Mariners Can’t Keep Pace With Contra Costa College

A balanced attack was not enough for the College of Marin Women's Basketball Team as they were defeated by Contra Costa College 80-57. Four players scored in double figures for Marin but they lost the rebounding battle by a wide margin.

The game started out sluggish for both teams with a serious of missed shots and sloppy turnovers. The Mariners tied the game at 11-11 with one minute remaining in the first quarter. Contra Costa extended their lead to 25-13 with a 9-2 run in the second quarter before the Mariners rallied to bring the score within 10 at the break 36-26.

The shooting woes continued for the Mariners in the second half as Contra Costa built their lead to 18 by the end of the third 60-42. The fourth quarter turned into an up and down affair with both teams scoring at will. Antoinae Austin scored her first points of the season with a layup off a half court pass from Jaychelle Price. Molly Carmody knocked down a pullup three pointer with minutes remaining, but it was not enough as the Mariners fell 80-57.

Ureka Abbushi had an efficient game with 10 points on 4-6 shooting with a pair of three pointers and seven rebounds. Carmody added 12 points, four assists and three steals.
