COM Women’s Basketball Shows Resolve But They Fall to Solano 69-56

The final game of the season for the Mariners was a microcosm of the season. Start slow, then show heart in the second half.  After falling behind 45-16 at halftime the College of Marin Women's Basketball Team outscored Solano College 40-24 in the second half to make for an entertaining 69-56 loss on Friday.

A forgettable first half saw the Mariners out of sync, intimidated and overmatched. The second half saw the Mariners as the aggressor, dictating on defense and playing with a newfound confidence.

After a second quarter where COM was outscored 24-6, the team attacked with new found resolve to start the second half. Molly Carmody scored 17 and attacked with reckless abandon, reaching the free throw line 15 times in the final 20 minutes of the game while making 13 of them. Jaychelle Price found the gaps to score a game high 18 points. COM pulled within 12 points a pair of times before Solano regained control of the game to grab a 13 point win 69-56.

Despite the loss Assistant Coach Jared Feldman was upbeat about the game "It would have been bad to play the entire game like we did in the first half. We played hungry in the second half, quieted the crowd, and controlled the tempo. If we'd played that way the entire game it would have been very competitive."

Darrian Cross had eight points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Kailey Walker had six points and three rebounds, while Price had eight rebounds to go with her 18 points.

It was the final game for Sophomores Price and Cross as well as Monica Vasquez and Kim Maxwell. The Mariners finished the season with a 5-18 record.
