College of Marin Women’s Basketball Drops Game To Lassen College 68-48

Just 18 hours after their loss to Las Positas, the Mariners faced Lassen College with only five healthy players. The five brave Mariners did their best to keep up with their opponents of Lassen, but fatigue eventually overcame desire, as Marin fell 68-48 on Friday.

Lassen, with energy and numbers, out hustled Marin from the outset, pushing a 21-13 first quarter advantage to a 38-26 halftime score. The Mariners made a small run to start the third quarter, but Lassen responded with a 20 point quarter and a 20 point lead heading into the fourth quarter. A slower paced fourth decreased the scoring, but the not Lassen advantage. Marin finished out the game with a strong few possessions, however it was not enough to prevent a 68-48 final score.

All five Mariners played 40 minutes of basketball and widely avoided foul trouble. J'Mia McKinney did pickup three fouls in the first quarter but managed to avoid any additonal fouls in the game. She led the team in scoring with 15 points and chipped in three rebounds, two assists and three steals. Tori Buckley had a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Daniella Cerruti had 12 free throw attempts making seven. She had nine total points, eight rebounds and seven steals as well contributing excellent defense throughout the game.

The Mariners host Shasta College on Wednesday, November 16th at 4pm.
