Cabrillo Along With Foul Trouble Thwart Marin In Overtime

A basketball game with six healthy bodies is tough enough, three is nearly impossible. The College of Marin Women's Basketball team finished the game with only three players in an overtime loss to Cabrillo College on the final day of November, 75-63.

The Mariners held a 39-32 lead to start the fourth quarter and pushed it as high as 12 with just five minutes remaining in the game. Foul trouble quickly overcame Marin as Regan Andel, Ureka Abbushi and Amari Allison all fouled out with more than three minutes left on the clock. The Mariners were forced to compete with just three players for the remainder of the game. J'Mia McKinney, Daniella Cerruti and Aezioni Fuller all fought hard to keep their advantage but Cabrillo managed to tie the game at 61-61 with just eight seconds remaining. Overtime came and went as the exhausted and undermanned Mariners fell by the score of 75-63.

Marin began with a blistering first quarter, outscoring Cabrillo College 17-7 after the first 10 minutes of play. The second quarter swung the other way as Cabrillo cut the Mariners halftime advantage to 3 points at 27-24. A 12=8 third quarter put Marin up by seven, before the teams combined for a staggering 51 points in the fourth quarter, courtesy of dozens of free throw attempts.

College of Marin went the line 34 times in the game, but managed to make just 17, Cabrillo was only nine of 22 from the line. Fuller led Marin with 19 points on 6-13 shooting with nine rebounds and four assists. McKinney had 16 points and five rebounds while Allison had a double double prior to fouling out with 12 points and 14 boards.

Assistant Coach Jared Feldman was pleased with his team's energy, but not with the foul trouble, "We did very well to play our game, but we couldn't adjust our overly aggressive defense at times which ended up costing us the game."

Marin has a chance at vengeance as they play Cabrillo College at the Santa Barbara City College Crossover on Saturday, December 3rd
