Mariners Unable To Exact Revenge On Cabrillo College

Just three days after a heartbreaking overtime loss to Cabrillo College, Marin had the rematch they wanted. Fresh off a 75-63 defeat at the hands of Cabrillo, Marin faced the same foe at the Santa Barbara City College Crossover.  While Marin took a 41-40 lead in the third quarter, fatigue once again proved to be the culprit, as Cabrillo responded and pulled out the 68-56 victory in regulation.

Marin got off to a slow start, falling behind by eight points early before bouncing back to trail 19-13 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw Marin as the aggressors, but they were unable to cut into the margin as Cabrillo took a 37-31 lead into halftime.

The third quarter had Marin with an advantage as they fed Amari Allison inside on multiple possessions to take a one point lead midway through the third. Unfortunately, a few adjustments by Cabrillo allowed them to expose the Marin defense as they scored at will to end the third quarter with a 54-43 lead.

The fourth quarter opened with a Cabrillo run to push their advantage to 18. Off a timeout the Mariners responded and cut the Cabrillo lead to 10 but could not get it any closer as they fell 68-56.

Allison led the way for the Mariners with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Ureka Abbushi had 15 points for Marin with a trio of three pointers as a quartet of steals. Daniella Cerruti had eight points and eight rebounds for College of Marin.

The team enjoys a brief rest, before hosting Monterey Peninsula College at 6PM on Wednesday, December 7th.
