COM Women’s Basketball Drops Close Game To Monterey 67-57

Despite 34 points from Freshman Forward Amari Allison, College of Marin was unable to overcome of the offensive rebounding of Monterey Peninsula College and fell 67-57 on Wednesday evening. Monterey cleaned up the glass with 18 offensive rebounds granting them the additional possessions to outscore the Mariners.

The first quarter was very evenly matched, as Marin, after a slow first few minutes picked up their offensive intensity and finished out the period trailing 16-14. The second quarter was driven by Amari Allison who scored 10 of Marin's 14 points in route to a 28-28 halftime score.

Monterey were the aggressors out of halftime, attacking the glass and were rewarded with several second chance buckets. On the offense end, Marin was hampered as the visitors double and triple teamed Allison to keep her from scoring. Despite the defense, the Mariners kept it close, as they trailed 46-40 heading into the final ten minutes.

Marin's fatigue began to show as Monterey beat them with several quick cuts to the basket that pushed the lead to double digits. Marin cut the lead to 57-49 as Daniella Cerruti hit a wing three pointer, but Monterey responded with a pair of put back layups to put the game away.

Allison led all scorers with 34 points. She was 11-24 from the floor and 12-17 from the line. She added 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals before fouling out with thirty seconds remaining in the game. Cerruti had 13 points including a pair of three pointers as well as two steals.

Marin has a day of rest before traveling to Modesto College on Friday, December 9th at 5:00PM.
