Mariners Women’s Basketball Falls To Shasta College Knights 57-48

College of Marin Women's Basketball endured a long day to face Shasta College in Redding on Saturday. The Mariners' day began early and ended late as they fell to the Knights 57-48. Marin held the lead after the first quarter, but a pair of runs by Shasta put them behind for good. Marin got the lion's share of their scoring from Kaleah Williams, Janea Early and Victoria Lane.

Marin began the game on the front foot as they shot well and defended strongly for a 16-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Predictably, Shasta College answered back with a big second quarter run. They outscored the Mariners 17-4 in the second quarter for a 25-20 Shasta lead at halftime. The Mariners battled after halftime, but could not chip away at the Shasta lead, as the Knights took a 38-30 lead into the final quarter of play.

The fourth quarter was high scoring, but the Mariners were unable to grab the advantage and ultimately fell 57-48. It was a hard fought game all the way through, but the numbers of Shasta were too much for Marin to surmount.

College of Marin's Kaleah Williams led all scorers with 19 points. She shot 7-16 from the floor and 2-7 from distance. She added seven rebounds and a steal as well. Victoria Lane had a double double in the loss with 15 points, and ten rebounds. Janea Early was added 11 points and nine rebounds in the loss.

The Mariners record sits at 2-2 with a birth in the Modesto College Tournament on tap. It begins with a matchup against Lassen College on Thursday, November 30th.
