Mariners Defeat DeAnza To Earn Berth In Modesto Tournament Consolation Championship

College of Marin Women's Basketball game out the gate quickly and built a lead that they managed over DeAnza College for the remainder of the game. Both teams played close in the second half, but Marin's first half advantage was enough to push them to a 71-62 victory and a chance at the Consolation Championship at the Modesto College Tournament. Janea Early had a monster game for the Mariners as she scored 30 points and added 15 rebounds on the afternoon.

Marin dominated in the pain in the first quarter as Early went to work and bodied up the DeAnza forwards. The Mariners scored 22 points in the first quarter while limiting DeAnza to just 13 points. The second quarter was a much slower affair as Marin outscored DeAnza just 10-9 to take a 32-22 lead into halftime.

The second half was much more up-tempo as both teams scored at will. Marin maintained their 10 point lead at the end of the third with a 51-41 lead. DeAnza made a run in the fourth but the Mariners withstood the assault to take the game 71-62.

Early scored her 30 points on 11-22 shooting and 8-13 from the free throw line. She added nine offensive and six defensive boards as well as three assists and a pair of steals. Victoria Lane added 24 points of her own with eight rebounds, six assists and a steal. Kyra Bolden filled up the stat sheet with three points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and five blocks.

Next up for the Mariners is a game against Bay Valley Conference foe Yuba in the Consolation Championship of the Modesto Tournament.
