Women’s Basketball Completes Home and Home Sweep Over Hartnell 76-52

It was an up and down affair to start for the Mariners on Tuesday, but it ended up, way up. The Mariners battled with Hartnell in the first quarter, but pulled ahead by double digits in the second quarter in route to a twenty four point route 76-52 of the Panthers in Kentfield. It was Marin's second win over Hartnell this year, after defeating them 72-61 on November 13th.

College of Marin jumped out to an early 6-2 lead and extended it to 11-6 halfway through the first quarter of play. Hartnell scored on consecutive possession to tie the game up at 11-11 before Marin went on a 7-0 run to end the quarter with an 18-11 lead.

The offense began to open up for Marin in the second stanza as Victoria Lane ran roughshod through the Hartnell defense. Janea Early dominated the interior and the two combined to help put the mariners up 41-28 at halftime. Early had 16 points of her own in the first half of play.

The third quarter played nearly even as Marin outscored Hartnell 18-16, but they truly blew the game open in the fourth quarter when Marin more than doubled up on their visiting opponents 17-8 for a final score of 76-52.

It was a somewhat sloppy game for both sides at times but the Mariners persevered and logged some impressive stat lines by games end. Lane led all scorers with 22 points on 8-20 shooting. She added seven rebounds, four assists and two steals to her game tally. Early had 21 points and 15 rebounds while Kaleah Williams had 16 points of her own on 7-14 shooting.

The Mariners have one final non-conference game on their schedule, against Monterey Peninsula College. They open Bay Valley Conference play on December 21st at Merritt College.
