COM Women’s Basketball Falls To Los Medanos 73-61

The Mariners enjoyed a rare personally advantage against the LMC Mustangs, however it was not enough to push them to victory. Marin played six against the five of Los Medanos but in the end the home team emerged with a 73-61 win on Thursday.

It was an even played first half as both teams managed to score with some ease. After ten minutes of competition the Mariners trailed the Mustangs by a single point 15-14. The second quarter opened up the speed of the game and it turned into a track meet until the end of half. When the dust settled Los Medanos led 38-32.

Conditioning became key in the second half as both teams began to wear down given the pace of the game. It was the Mustangs who ended up on the better side as they outscored Marin 18-10 in the third quarter and held on in the fourth to take the game 73-61.

Marin struggled at times from the field shooting just 30% on the game, compared to 43.3% for Los Medanos. From distance Marin made just 5-18 while the Mustangs countered with 11-25 from long range.

Janea Early led the Mariners with 20 points and 16 rebounds while Kaleah Williams had 12 points and 16 rebounds of her own. Victoria Lane had 14 points, eight rebounds and two assists for the Mariners. Los Medanos was paced by Adorah Buggs who had 22 points, while Jayden Tolentino had 20 points and 10 rebounds.

The Mariners have a short layoff before a chance to get back on the winning side of the ledger. They host Solano College on Saturday, January 6th at 3pm.
