Women’s Soccer Downs Merritt College 1-0

The College of Marin Women’s Soccer team has been very competitive when they can field a full team. When the two teams matched up in September, the Mariners came out with a 2-0 victory, despite playing with only 10 players. On that day, the Mariners earned their first victory of the season.

On Tuesday at Merritt, the Mariners had exactly 11 players, and despite lacking any subs to give rest, the Mariners emerged with a 1-0 win and their fifth win of the season.

The match started out with a pair of chances for each team, but the goalkeepers expertly denied all chances. College of Marin found the breakthrough goal in the 35th minute as Kalia Rothlind beat the keeper off a pass from Grace Gurung. The midfield pair have been wildly successful on the field together accounting for the majority of the team’s goals and assists this season. Gurung has a pair of goals and four assists on the season. Rothlind has three goals and two assists in 2015.

Patty Lindsay had five saves for her fourth shutout of the season.

On the win Coach Chris King, “The girls are battling in every way, balancing work, school and soccer it’s hard for them to even make it out but they find a way to get there and find a way to make it happen on the field. Always pushing for each other every minute which is hard to do when you’re playing as much as they are. A really fun group to be a part of.”

The Mariners face Mendocino College on Wednesday, October 28th
