Women’s Soccer Unable to Find Form In 5-0 Loss to Skyline College

The College of Marin Women's Soccer team is building chemistry with every game, but they are yet to hit their stride.  A stalwart defense kept visiting Skyline College of the board for the first fifteen minutes of the match, despite Marin playing a man down during that time. Despite the effort, Skyline managed to push five goals across, contributing to a 5-0 final score.

Starting Marin goalkeeper Casey Cavender was unavailable at the beginning of the match, so Lauren Rogers began in goal for the first twenty minutes. She made several saves before being beaten by a close range shot from the right flank.

Back to full strength with the addition of Cavender, the Mariners began to move the ball with some better consistency, but were unable to threaten the Skyline goal. Skyline added two more goals before the half as their counter attack knifed through the Marin defense. The Marin offense showed fatigue in the second half and could not force the issue with Skyline as the visiting Trojans added another pair of goals late to bring a score line of 5-0.

There were some bright spots for Marin as Claire Zerbe made her season debut and was a dynamo across the entire field. Michelle Godoy did an excellent job in the midfield and Elise Perez held together the backline which prevented several additional goals from scoring.

The Mariners travel to Yuba College on Friday, September 23rd to open conference play.
