Maddie Bailey Nets Magnificent Free Kick in Mariner’s 7-1 Loss To Solano

College of Marin Women's soccer began their conference schedule with a tough match against rival Solano College. While the end result was a 7-1 loss, there were several positives to draw from it.

The Mariners defense started out strong with Elise Perez and Maddie Bailey holding down the fort amongst an onslaught of Solano shots on goal. Casey Cavender delivered a solid performance in goal holding back Solano until the 28th minute of the match. Solano proceeded to score four times in a fifteen-minute span to take a 4-0 lead late in the first half.

A foul by Solano gave the Mariners a direct free kick from the right side of the pitch. Bailey delivered a perfect free kick from 30 yards out to loft the Solano keeper and give the team their second goal of the season. Though Solano did push the score line back to 5-1 at the end of the first half, it was a very solid effort for the Mariners.

Fatigue was apparent for College of Marin in the second half but they managed to subdue the Solano attack to only a pair of goals for a 7-1 final score.

It was Bailey's first goal of the season, the team's second while Cavender made seven saves.

The Mariners continue conference play at Los Medanos College on Friday, September 30th
