COM Women’s Soccer Grabs First Point of The Year With 2-2 Draw at Los Medanos

The College of Marin Women's Soccer is starting to put it all together. After struggling with injuries, fatigue and lack of numbers for the first three weeks of the season, the Mariners are coming together as a team, and their play on the field is representative of it. After taking an early 2-0 lead at Los Medanos College, COM hung on for a 2-2 draw and their first result of the season.

The Mariners started strong out of the gate as Tatum Robach unleashed a powerful shot in the 8th minute to give COM an early 1-0 lead. They doubled their advantage in the 17th minute as Robach fed Jessica Avalos Sanchez for a 2-0 advantage. While Los Medanos looked to even the score, they were kept off the ledger in the first half.

The Mariners' defense held firm through the beginning of second half, but Los Medanos did manage the breakthrough in the 70th minute as Vanessa Kualapai beat the COM keeper Casey Cavender to cut the Marin advantage in half. With the score 2-1 in favor of College of Marin, one-minute stoppage time was announced by the referee. Despite calls for the final whistle, the game pressed on and in the 93rd minute Gina Lopez slotted home to tie the game up at 2-2.  The final whistle blew, and the Mariners had to settle for the draw.

Although they came close to their first win of the season, it was still a very positive result for the Mariners, who scored twice, after matching that total through their first five matches of the season.

College of Marin hosts Contra Costa College in their second conference match of the year on Tuesday, October 4th at 4PM.
