COM Women’s Soccer Outgunned by Solano College 7-2

Mariners Women's Soccer faced a bit of adversity in their first road match of the year. The Solano Falcons scored early and often against the Marin defense. Goals flew as the score line read 2-1 after less than ten minutes of play. While the Mariners kept it close early, the speed and numbers of Solano wore down the Mariners defense and at the end of 90 minutes of play Solano emerged with the 7-2 win.

Marin was down a key member of the midfield as Bella Santia was unavailable for Tuesday's match. Her calming presence was missed as Solano scored in the fourth and sixth minutes to take a very early 2-0 lead over the Mariners.

COM did not go quietly as they issued a response after the Falcon's second goal. On the attack Marin's Michelle Godoy gathered the ball in the attacking third and laid the ball off to forward Christine Wilhoyte who blasted the ball into the back of the net to cut Solano's lead in half.

Solano's attack was thwarted for the following 25 minutes, until Kaci Trujillo scored in the 31st minute. Ten minutes later Kailyn Herrera added Solano's fourth goal and the score sat at 4-1 at halftime.

In the second half Trujillo added her second at the 60 minute mark to put her team up 5-1. Marin responded in kind at Kelly Santana scored her first goal of the year, unassisted in the 70th minute.

The home team was not content with a mere three goal lead and proceeded to score twice more in the 79th and 86th minutes. Both Herrera and Trujillo recorded hat tricks in the 7-2 win for Solano.

For the Mariners, the game was an opportunity to match up against a very solid opponent. They will have a chance to rebound on Friday, September 29th against Los Medanos in Kentfield at 2:00PM.
