Bella Santia Helps COM Women’s Soccer Upends Los Medanos 2-1

The Mariners bounced back from a midweek loss to Solano with an excellent home showing on Friday against Los Medanos College. Marin started out on the attack and scored first, they added a second goal in the second half and held on for a 2-1 win.

Marin peppered the Los Medanos goal early on as Bella Santia hit the woodwork in the tenth minute. The home team kept the pressure up and Santia continued her assault on the LMC goal, a 20th minute shot of her rebounded perfectly to Kelly Santana who pounced on it and scored the opening volley for the Mariners. It was Santana's second goal in as many games who came off the bench for Marin.

College of Marin entered the half with a one goal and advantage and refocused their attack to continue to up the tempo against the visitors. In the second half Tatum Robach was relentless on the attack from the left wing. While she was unable to score with a variety of shots from different angles, she was brought down in the box in the 65th minute, drawing a penalty.

Santia stepped to the penalty spot and calming finished for a 2-0 Marin lead. The team backed off a bit at that point and looked to control possession with the hopes of running down the remaining time. It was not an easy finish for the Mariners as LMC pressured Marin. Adriana Urrutia took the ball down the right side and fed Autumn Kish who scored top shelf to cut the Mariners lead in half. The Mariners defense held strong however, for the last ten minutes and the team took the 2-1 victory to the locker room.

It was the Mariners second conference win in three games, and their record overall sits at 4-2-2.

"Everyone really stepped up and played well. We dominated possession for much of the game and it was good to see everyone contribute," said Coach Andrew Jones on the match.

Santia and Santana each scored their second goal of the season. Robach earned her second assist and Santia added her fifth of the year.

Next up for Marin is a visit to Contra Costa College on Tuesday, October 3rd.
