COM Women’s Soccer Held To Scoreless Draw In Mendocino

Mariners Women's Soccer took the long road to Ukiah on Friday, but were held goalless on a hot windless afternoon. The Mariners looked to push their winning streak to three, but had to settle for a single point in a 0-0 competition against the Mendocino College Eagles.

Marin got off to a hot start as Tatum Robach had a good chance early, that was deflected by the Mendocino goalkeeper. After Robach's early shot the game swung in favor of the Eagles as they went on the attack and peppered Mariners keeper Shanan Daly. The Mariners' netminder was fantastic in goal and denied all four of the home team's shots in the first half. Robach went close late in the opening period but was unable to break the deadlock.

After the halftime rest, both teams took back to field and Mendocino picked up right where they left off. They dominated possession and the shot count on the scoreboard as they put nine second half shots on target. Not to be outdone by her first half effort, Daly saved every Eagles shot to keep the match scoreless. While the Mariners were unable to score themselves, it was Daly's efforts that gave the Mariners a result in 0-0 the match.

"We didn't play our best soccer and were fortunate to grab a point. Shanan Daly was outstanding in goal, she saved the match for us, literally," said Head Coach Andrew Jones.

The draw puts Marin's conference record at 3-1-1, tied for second with Napa Valley College behind Solano College. Overall, the Mariners are 5-2-3 on the season.

On Tuesday, October 10th the Mariners will host Napa Valley, looking to take sole possession of second place.
