Mariners Defeat Alameda Cougars 3-0

The College of Marin Volleyball team came out of the gate strong and defeated the College of Alameda Cougars in route to a 3-0 victory on Wednesday. Coming off a defeat at Yuba College the previous Friday, the Mariners needed a quick start to build momentum and confidence.  

The Mariners controlled the tempo in the first set, and nabbed an easy 25-15 victory. The remainder of the match however, was a highly contested affair. The College of Alameda, led by the 6’2” Nadia Bedard continued to nip at the Mariners heels.  A pair of crucial kills by Tate Dobbins and a service error by Alameda gave the Mariners the second set win 25-22.

Alameda came out swinging and took an 18-12 lead over the Mariners midway through the third set. After a key timeout by Coach Lindsay Baciaglupi, the Mariners battled back to tie the game at 23-23.  Tate Dobbins smashed the 24th point off of a Jenny Huezo set before a hitter error by Alameda yielded a 25-23 third set victory and match to the College of Marin.

Sophomore Kailey Walker led the way for the Mariners with 10 kills, 6 aces and four digs. Tate Dobbins had 15 kills and nine digs while setter Jenny Huezo had 23 assists, 2 aces, 4 digs and seven kills of her own.  Bedard had 12 kills five aces and three blocks for Alameda.

On the match assistant coach Kiara Hatcher “We really played up to our potential today. Our ability to rally from the deficit in the third set shows how much we’ve grown as a team this year.

The Mariners enjoy a bye round before a pair of matches on the road against Los Medanos and Laney in the first week of November.
