Volleyball Grabs First Home Win of Season Over Laney College 3-0

After a brutal early season schedule, time and hard work have begun to pay off for the College of Marin Volleyball team. Despite losing their first nine matches, the Mariners are victorious in two of their last three after pummeling Laney in straight sets on Wednesday. Marin’s record stands at 2-3 in conference and 2-10 overall.

The Mariners got off to a slower start in the first set, but rallied for a 25-14 victory. The Mariners dominated the second set 25-12 before putting away Laney 25-18 in the final set.

Kailey Walker led the Mariners with seven kills, four aces and eight digs. Ashley Mellor had a breakout game with four kills, five aces and six digs, and Jenny Huezo had 15 assists for the Mariners. Leading outside hitter Tate Dobbins was unavailable for the match with an illness.

“I’m really proud of the way the girls stepped up, they were in a new rotation and they excelled in their newfound positions. They performed well evidenced by getting their first home win,” said Assistant Coach Kiara Hatcher.

The Mariners face Contra Costa College on Friday, October 9th looking for back to back wins.
