COM Volleyball Begins New Streak With 3-0 Home Win Over Napa

Two days after having their four-match winning streak snapped at Yuba, the Mariners began a new streak with a convincing 3-0 victory over their local rivals from Napa Valley College. Despite the 3-0 score line, it was not an easy match for the Mariners who had to overcome several deficits to win.

The first set was evenly played, as Napa jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before Marin made a move to take a 5-2 lead. The two teams kept pace from that point on as Marin held a 21-18 lead before scoring four consecutive points to earn the first set victory 25-18.

The second set played heavily into the visiting team's favor as the Mariners struggled to make quality plays. Marin fell behind 15-5 when Coach Lisa Gera called a timeout and emphatically encouraged her team to kick it into gear. The team responded with a huge run, outscoring Napa 20-8 the rest of the way to take the second set 25-23.

Napa Valley did not go quietly as they continued to battle deep into the third set. The visitors held a 18-17 advantage before the Mariners flexed their muscles and end the match with an 8-3 run.

It was a very balanced effort for the Mariners, who got excellent contributions from Salomi Galodamu, Bella De Souza, Sarah Harris and Alejandra Leon. Libero Emma Harris was phenomenal on defense and aced Napa multiple times throughout the match.

The Mariners have a busy final two week stretch to end the season as they play five matches in the period of just ten days. The team travels to Los Medanos College on Wednesday, November first before hosting three consecutive matches against Alameda on November 3rd, Solano on November 7th and Mendocino on November 8th. The final match of the year is at Laney College on Friday, November 10th.
