College of Marin

Long recognized as one of California’s most accomplished and influential basketball figures, Coach Riemcke’s College of Marin (1957–1969) teams won seven conference championships, participated in six California state tournaments, never finished lower than third place in conference, and were ranked third in the state in 1961.

Following his sterling College of Marin career, recording a combined record of 103–62, Cal moved on to become head coach at Whitworth College from 1969–1976 and in his final year there was selected NAIA District one Coach of the year. In 26 years of coaching his record was 384–292. 

In 2001 he was inducted into the hall of Fame of the California Community Colleges Basketball Coaches Association, which he helped organize and where he held several executive level positions, including president.

Coach Riemcke holds a master’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley and is the author of a book entitled The Guard Freedom Offense for Winning Basketball. He’s also published numerous articles for professional journals. Cal began his coaching career at Alhambra high School in Martinez (1950–1954) and moved on to Oxnard high School (1954–1957) before his arrival at Marin.

After leaving Whitworth he became district director of athletics for the Yakima School (K-12) District (1976–1990). During his tenure he was selected as Athletic Director of the year in Washington and was later inducted into the state’s Athletic Director hall of Fame.

While serving as Yakima AD he also headed the district’s drug treatment and prevention program (1985–990). From 1990–1992 was a consultant for the Yakima County Substance Abuse Coalition. From 1989–2010 Cal was an active Red Cross volunteer and rose to the position of Washington State Chairman. Cal and his wife, Eileen, live in Spokane.
