Post graduation, Pieper took his skills across the bay to the College of Marin and began coaching both the track and football teams. In 1954, six years into his stint at COM, he was promoted to head football coach and Athletic Director, a position he remained in for the next 20 years. During his time as AD, Pieper was instrumental in the planning and development of the athletic complex at COM.

In 1973, Pieper stepped down from his position as AD to work in the District Office as Personnel Director. After two and a half years in this position, he decided to return to the PE Department as a teacher and remained there for the next 7 years until he retired in 1983. Five years post retirement the COM football stadium was dedicated in Harry’s name.
