Joseph Morello Sr.
Year: Class of 2011
Sport: Baseball

Morello, whom passed away in September 2010, was known throughout Marin County as the “Produce Guru” of the Mill Valley Market; however, before partnering with the Canepa family in 1956, Morello attended Park School, Tamalpais High School and the College of Marin. While at COM he achieved his AA and co-captained the baseball team. Post college career, Joe went on to play for the San Francisco Jr. Seals in the Pacific Coast League where he was a member of their 1949-1950 champion Seals Stadium Winter League team. He continued to play sports throughout his life—he was an avid golfer; and loved to watch professional sports, especially his beloved San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants.

Joe was an extremely passionate man. His love for sports helped him to start the Southern Marin Little League for the youth of Marin County; in addition, he coached numerous little league and CYO basketball teams. He dedicated himself to the Mill Valley Market, spending hours inspecting produce, learning the every intricacy of the fine food and wine industries so his customers could have the finest food possible. There was no want or need that Joe could not provide his customers. Joe left the Mill Valley after 35 years of service. Even after retirement his passion for food continued on, barbecuing and preparing food for his friends and family.

Morello is survived by his wife of 58 years, Augie, his three children and four grandchildren.
