Casad and Villareal are March's Mariners of the Month

Baseball player Cooper Casad and Track and Field athlete Amanda Villareal are the Mariners of the Month for March. Casad made six appearences in March, posting an ERA of 2.78 . Villareal ran in two meets and was awarded the Big 8 Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.

Casad was a swiss army knife for Marin in March with three starts and three relief appearences. He exibited incredible control in his 32 innings, walking just three while striking out 30. His strikeout to walk ratio was 10.00 and his strikeouts per nine innings was 8.41

In the Mariners 11 inning win at Yuba on March 1st, Casad picked up the win in relief when he threw four shutout innings, striking out five and allowing just two hits. He was magnificent in the team’s 15 inning loss to to Folsom Lake on March 8th, tossing seven and a third shutout innings and striking out 10. He started March 15th against Contra Costa and picked up the win with five shutout innings, striking out seven against just three hits.

Amanda Villareal was the standout performer for the College of Marin Track team in March. She opened the month at the De Anza Invitational where she placed third in the 100 meter hurdles in 17.13 seconds. She also ran in the 400 meter hurdles where she took sixth place with a time of 1:13:80.

Villareal dazzled at her next meet at the Bob Team Challenge at College of San Mateo. She took second in the 400 meter hurdles, clocking in at 1:14:79. The sophomore was first in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16:55. For her exploits she was awarded the Big 8 Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.

Both Casad and Villareal are having outstanding seasons for College of Marin and the Athletics Department is proud to call them Mariners.
