Soccer's Deirdre Hyde Is September Co-Mariner of the Month

Freshman Woman’s Soccer player Deirdre Hyde was named as Co-Mariner of the Month for September as she ignited her team with five goals in six matches leading them to a 2-3-1 record during the month.

Hyde, a Casa Grande High School graduate, made her debut on September 7th at De Anza College. She made her presence felt in a hurry with two goals in her team’s 3-2 victory over the Dons. The Mariners were tied with De Anza in the 28th minute when Hyde put her team. She added an insurance goal in the 80th minute to ensure a Mariners’ victory.

Hyde continued her goal scoring ways early in her second match of the season against Feather River. On September 11th, Marin held a 1-0 lead in the 2nd minute, Hyde doubled the Mariners’ advantage in the fourth minute with a 20-yard laser from outside the box. Though the Mariners drew in the match 2-2, Hyde was an expert distributor throughout.

Hyde made it four goals in three games against Skyline College as Hyde opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Though Marin ultimately fell to the Trojans 3-1, Hyde continued to show her nose for the goal.

The Mariners were shutout for the following two matches but Hyde managed to find the net again on September 28th against the Napa Valley Storm. A scoreless first half was broken up in the 65th minute by Hyde. She earned a free kick at the top of the box and delivered a picture perfect direct free kick past the keeper and into the net for a 1-0 lead. Hyde also provided the assist on the Mariners other goal of the match as they went on to earn a 2-1 victory.

In six matches in September Hyde registered five goals, an assist and 20 shots on goal.  The attacking midfielder is on her way to an excellent freshman season for the Mariners.
