Disa Johannson Named October Women’s Mariner of the Month

Freshman Defender Disa Johannson was named the Women’s Mariner of the Month for October. The Redwood High graduate has spent the entirety of the season in central defense for the College of Marin Women’s Soccer Team. She has been excellent all season, but raised her game a step further in the month of October.

In six matches she anchored a back four that allowed seven goals during the month. On October 3rd against Contra Costa, Johannson and company yielded a single goal late in the match where the Mariners won 8-1. She evening stepped up from her central defensive spot to provide the assist on Ana Kravitz’s fifth goal of the match.

Johannson was instrumental in Marin’s 0-0 draw at Mendocino on October 6th, she was a stalwart in the box, sending away crosses and shots with ease. Again Yuba College on October 20th, she fought tooth and nail for the 1-1 draw as Yuba held possession and continued an aggressive approach into the Marin defensive third.

In a seven goal fest against BVC leaders Solano College, Johannson was essential in keeping the Falcon’s attack at bay. After the visitors scored two early, it was Disa’s defense that gave Marin the chance to rally. Although the team ultimately fell 4-3, the defense was hugely important in making the game competitive.

The Mariners lost 1-0 to second place Los Medanos College on October 27th. The home team had 12 shots on goal in the match. Goalkeeper Shanan Daly did very well to keep the score at a single late goal and it was the defense’s assistance that helped keep the game close.

In the final game of October Johnannson showed her offensive capabilities in the Mariners 8-2 win over Merritt College. In a two minute span she assisted on a goal by Michelle Godoy before Disa scored her first career goal with a shot low and to the left of the keeper.
